Shuttle Buses

The University offers some shuttle bus services for the convenience of students.

Newport Campuses: Unigo

There is a Newport student bus service called ‘Unigo’ running to and from the Newport City and Caerleon campuses. The Unigo pass alows you to travel on any of the Newport bus services including to Cardiff, Cwmbran, Abertillery and in Monmouth.

Treforest – Glyntaff

The most established route is the Treforest-Glyntaff shuttle bus. The service runs during term time, Mondays to Fridays. The route stops at the Sport Centre in Treforest and Lower Glyntaff (outside Elaine Morgan Building).

The shuttle bus service commences on 22nd September 2013 and runs throughout term.

USW Sport Park

A bus service to USW Sport Park leaves Treforest from outside the Randy Dragon / Students’ Union.

The bus service commences on 29th September 2014.

Freshers’ Buses

The Students’ Union offers a bus from Cardiff to Treforest and back for Freshers’ Fair, and some buses from Newport to Cardiff for club nights.

Non-university shuttle buses

Several Supermarkets offer free bus services. The bus operator N.A.T. Group lists several of these online, at the end of the N.A.T. Bus Network page.

Tesco Upper Boat

There is a free weekly bus to Tesco, which you can catch from Treforest to Tesco and back on Tuesdays. The timetable and pick up / drop off stops are as follows:

  • Wood Road (junction between Wood Rd & Tower St) 11.32am
  • Queen Street (spar shop) 11.33am
  • King Street (bus stop) 11.34am
  • Brook Street (outside University gates) 11.35am
  • The bus will arrive at Tesco at approximately 11.45am and will return at 2.15pm

Asda shuttle buses in Cardiff and Treforest

There is are several free weekly buses to Asda supermarket. These cover parts of Cardiff and two routes cover Treforest.

There are ASDA buses going through Treforest on Wednesday and Thursdays mornings. In addition, there is a nonstop bus aimed specifically at students on Thursday afternoons. That bus is scheduled to depart at 5pm, but is known to depart as soon as it is full, which may be much earlier due to high demand levels.

The 5pm bus on Thursdays departs from the bus stop adjacent to the Otley pub on Forest Road.

Newport supermarket buses

There is a free bus to Tesco Spytty from Home Farm (Caerleon) on Saturdays.

There is also a free bus to Sainsbury’s from Newport Bus Station (which is near the Newport City campus).
