Summer 2010

Whether you’d like to rock your socks off, sample fine foods, or anything in between, South Wales offers you lots of opportunities to enjoy yourself this summer.

Now that the academic year is over for most students, life on campus is settling into a different pace. However, we know there’s quite a few students left in the area. With that in mind, the Glamlife team have compiled a list of events and outings that, we hope, could liven up your summer. It’s by no means a complete list – so have a look at the recommended websites at the end of this article for up-to-date and more comprehensive event listings! A quick disclaimer: The information is up-to-date at the time of writing, but subject to changes. If you find an event you want to attend, always check their website before going. Some events may be cancelled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Calendar: what’s on next?

The calendar below shows the next few events – you can scroll through it, and look up events a bit further into the future than next weekend.

July 2010

a funfair at night July is festival season! The Cardiff Festival is diverse, with parades, food festivals, open air theatre and acrobatics performances, free concerts, opportunities to try extreme sports and more. There’s literally something new to explore and discover every weekend.

Other festivals include Penarth Summer Festival, the Barry Island Wekenders (including an Architectural Sand Castle Festival!), Caerphilly’s Big Cheese Festival and, just around the corner from our Treforest campus, Ponty’s Big Weekend. A little further afield, the Monmouth Music Festival is one of the biggest free music festivals in the UK.

There’s quite a bit of open air theatre and Opera in our calendar, too. If you fancy a little cultural delight with a nice picnic on a long summer evening, check out the Everyman Theatre Festival, taking place at St Fagans. Get your tickets early – this might sell out!

Downloadable guide

Downloadable PDF summer guide If you’d like to have a handy, printable overview over all the events, we’ve prepared a downloadable PDF for you. It lists all the events, and contains hyperlinks to their locations and websites with more information. The guide lists all the best South Wales events until the end of September.

You can also find a harcopy of this guide to browse in the information room of the International Students Support Service.
